Day 29 - Corn, Corn, and more...

Sioux Falls, SD to Worthington, MN

Distance: 67 miles
Time: 4.5 hrs
Elevation Gain: 1,552 ft

It was a hot day, but still a great day to ride.  It was sunny and already in the high 70's at 6:30 am when we started and got up to the mid 90's by late morning.  A slight cross/tail wind help keep things a little cooler while ridding.  The route was mostly flat today with a few small hills.  We were supposed to start our ride on a bike path that would have taken us along a rive and by Sioux Falls, but due to flooding we were re-routed through the local neighborhoods and downtown Sioux Falls.  When we got out of Sioux Falls, we road through corn filed after corn field and a few wheat fields all day.  Large grain silos can be seen for miles away, and usually there would be a small town near the larger silos.  At mile 25 we crossed the state line ridding into our 5th state, Minnesota and saying good bye to South Dakota.  The condition of the roads changed every time we road across a county line, some road surfaces were in great shape while others were in bad shape.  The roads in the larger towns were in terrible conditions with some having very large cracks that could swallow a bike whole.   The hotel that were staying at tonight provided a nice spread of fruit, snacks, and ice cold water for us when we arrived, thank you Super 8.  Tomorrow we have a long day, 102 miles with the promise of higher temperatures.
