It was Hot today, mid 90's with a heat index of 120. We started at 6 am and it was already in the high 70's and it got in the mid 90's by early afternoon. Not only it was hot, but it was also very humid, I was dripping with sweat all day. We had a slight breeze all day that helped cool things down a bit when ridding. The route was mainly flat today with a few gentle rolling hills to deal with. We road on back county roads all day, except for last 20 miles when we road on a very busy county highway. The road surfaces varied from smooth with new black top to rough with wide cracks every 20 feet. The landscape was flat with corn fields as far as you can see and dotted with grain silos every 10 to 20 miles. The support staff did a great job with making sure everyone was getting enough hydration throughout the day. The best part is, we get to do it all over again tomorrow - we ride 99 miles to Rochester, MN with the same high temperatures and humidity, and for a bonus we get to climbs some hills.
